Cross Country 2015

It was a hot, barmy, Bali day.  Excitement, team spirit and house colours filled the air.  It was November 13th, Cross Country day.  Our two fearless PE leaders Mr Wima and Mr Pasek and their team had been hard at work setting out a challenging course for Sunrise students.

Students in blue for Legong, green for Topeng, red for Kecak and yellow for Baris made their way to the back oval to begin the sporting day.  Together, students stretched, got organised and sat in anticipation of their race.

Small World began the day with a race around the oval.  School spirit was high in the air as students, teachers and parents shouted and chanted for the Small World students.  Each grade continued race after race, as Sunrise School progressed through the morning.  Students started with strength, vigour and pleasing sportsmanship.  They ran through the rice fields, through the school grounds, around markers, and watched for teachers’ guidance and support.

It was a challenging and emotional day as students tried their very best, fell and scraped their knee, slipped in mud, stopped to help friends, and ran as hard, and as fast as they could.  Each teacher and parent beamed with pride as students finished their race, their exertion clear to see on sweaty red faces and mud stained clothes.  It was truly a great effort.

As the races began to finish and the heat really set in students headed to the Bale-Bale under the guidance of Mr Wima and Mr Pasek to await the all-important point update and trophy winners.

Sitting tired, but satisfied, students and teachers eagerly awaited to hear the winning house.  With bated breath Mr Wima began to announce the points and give out the trophies.  Kecak was the winning team for cross-country 2015.

It had been a long, hot day and students and teachers retired to their rooms to cool off and complete some quiet work for the rest of the day.  However, students still buzzed with the excitement of their own and their friends’ achievements.  We are all enthusiastically waiting for cross country next year.
